PC Freezes When Burning Movies

Author: | Posted in the "PC Hardware" Category

James was wondering why his XP PC freezes while trying to burn DVD’s/Movies.

Heres a few possible causes and solutions:

  • The computer is old and doesn’t have the specs (RAM,CPU speed, etc..) to encode/burn large movie files.
  • The DVD burner driver needs to be updated.
  • The blank discs used are not compatible with the burner or the discs are scratched/unclean.
  • The software used to burn discs is outdated so try to get the latest version or switch programs.

You could also try looking at the event viewer for clues as to why the system froze. Go to Start – Control Panel – Administrative Tools – Event Viewer. Click on the Application and System links on the left and scroll down to the time of the crash and see if there are any Errors.
