Stewart updated his BIOS and found that afterwards every time he inserted a USB drive, the PC froze. Here’s some suggestions.
It seems pretty obvious that your BIOS update is the cause of the problem so presuming you downloaded the correct update for your PC, you should probably try to roll back to the previous BIOS version.
Make sure that particular USB drive is not faulty by trying it in another PC if you can.
You could also try to get an updated SCSI/Raid driver from the HP site.
