In the last few years Skype has become perhaps the number one internet/pc communication tool and in some cases (mine included) a complete replacement for the home phone. Everyone’s heard of it but people still ask me what its all about. Here goes.
I’ll start with a list of what Skype can do for you but I’ll also mention that you need a PC with Broadband, a Mic/Headset and Webcam for full effect:
- Make phone calls to other skype users (FREE)
- Make phone calls to Landlines and Mobiles in any country by buying pre-paid credit similar to a pay as you go mobile phone. Rates are way cheaper than any phone company.
- Have Instant Messaging (IM) chats with people. This involves using your keyboard to chat in real time with any other skype user anywhere in the world.
- Have Webcam chats. This involves ringing another skype user and both being able to see each other while you talk!
- Send a file. Simple drag a file onto the chat window and you can send a file directly to whoever you are chatting to.
- Place Skype buttons on your website so that when clicked a Chat or Call is immediately initiated. The button will reflect whether you are currently online or not.
- Play games with a friend.
- View your chat history.
- Setup Voicemail.
- Add Skype ID’s and regular phone numbers to your contact list.
For me, Skype has wrapped up a number of other communication tool in one handy, reliable package and its saved me a ton of money since I started using it! Did I mention its also FREE to download – www.skype.com
