Patrick rebuilt his pc and all went fine except that there is no sound and he’s getting the message “Audio Hardware cannot be found”. The obvious solution is to check you have the correct, updated drivers for your on board sound card. Check the motherboard manufacturer’s website for drivers. A new PCI card could also solve the problem and this will most likely come with drivers too.
Alan’s version of Microsoft Word crashes after about 2 minutes of use each time. The following error displays: “Runtime Error Programme C:/Program Files/Microsoft Office/Office10/Winword.exe Abnormal Program Termination”. The problem might be related to a Word add-in. This article may provide a solution – http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q322201 Also, a re-install of Word or an up to date virus scan might help.
Jason re-installed windows and now every time he restarts it goes straight to a Grub Command line. This is indicative of problems with the boot loader or master boot record. A possible solution might be to boot the pc from the Vista disc and go to repair console and type in fixmbr and fixboot.
Radha is getting the following error message on startup:
“A debugger has been found running on your system. Please unload it from memory and restart your program”
A possible workaround for this might be to click Start – Run – Type “msconfig”. Click the Boot.ini Tab – Advanced, then untick the “Debug” box.
Kelly’s computer restarts automatically but not in Safe Mode. Normally I’d say check your CPU temperature and check for faulty RAM but because the pc starts ok in safe mode it might indicate a virus. Run your updated anti-virus program in safe mode as well as checking the CPU and RAM. Also, Right-click My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery Settings > Uncheck “automatically restart” in the System Failure section. This will stop the restarting and possibly give you a better indication of what’s causing the error. You can also check your Event Viewer for clues once you get started in normal mode.
